Earthquake of 5.5 Magnitude Hits Assam, Tremors Felt In Bengal And Bihar and neighboring Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh
A mild tremor shakes Assam's Kokrajhar today at 10:20 AM, actual location is 7 km from Sapatgram, Assam. The earthquake was measured at a magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale.
Earthquake
tremors were felt all around the region. Earthquake tremors were felt
in West Bengal and Bihar, to the west of the epicentre, and up to
Arunachal Pradesh to the east.
Earthquake
tremors were felt in almost the whole of West Bengal, including Kolkata
as well as Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Cooch Behar, Malda and Mushidabad. According to the report, a mild tremor also felt in Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh.
In
Bihar, earthquake tremors were felt in Patna as well as parts of
Kishanganj, Purnea and Katihar. Tremors were also felt in Sikkim,
Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.
Vineet Gahlaut, the
director of National Seismology Center, said that the earthquake was of
magnitude 5.5 and struck at a depth of about 10-12 mks from surface.
